VISCOSITY

  • Semen is a non-homogenous coagulum, which becomes more fluid after liquefaction.
  • Consistency of semen is slightly more than that of water i.e. semen is a viscous body fluid.

Introducing SFT Kit for Viscocity (Chemotrypsin), for the first time ever!

We are first to introduce Viscocity - CH SFT Kit to Lab Andrology.

Viscocity - CH SFT Kit is used for Diagnostic Andrology whereas Viscocity - BR is used in Semen Processing Treatment.

> Assessment of Semen Viscosity

Generally, viscosity & liquefaction time go hand in hand; with increase in liquefaction time, viscosity is also increased.
The issue with highly viscous semen sample is the difficulty faced in assessing Sperm Concentration, Motility & Morphology. Hence, it is important to correct the viscosity to normal consistency before it is subjected to semen analysis & sperm function tests.

  • An average length of a string or a drop up to 40mm is considered as Normal viscosity.
  • The string length between 40-60mm is considered as Equivocal.
  • The string length more than 60mm is considered as Highly Viscous and Abnormal.

Highly viscous semen samples can be treated with Chemotrypsin / Bromolene and these treatments do not affect sperm function tests.
